This Society relies on the help of compassionate people who are concerned with the well-being of all animals and who wish to do more than merely sympathize -- people who are prepared to give their time and money to enable the society to carry on with its work.

Have we the right to ignore their suffering?

If all of the earth's wildlife were to disappear tomorrow, we would be tragically affected. Yet, today, habitats are being destroyed to the advantage of mankind, and entire species are being endangered or exterminated one after another.

As for our company animals, they are not much better off. Apart from a decently treated minority, many are abused, deprived of freedom or left to wander aimlessly.
Most of us are not generally brought face-to-face with cruelty inour daily lives, but it exists all around us, on farms, in laboratories, slaughterhouses and homes. Each year, millions of animals are brutalized through industrial breeding and in the name of scientific research.
.. and yet, more and more, prominent observers are insisting that animals are neither objects nor machines, but sensitive creatures with degrees of perfection still unknown to us, and with a sensitivity comparable to our own. If we want to live up to our self-endowed title of civilized human beings, we cannot remain passive. Our laws are inadequate and out-of-date.
They must be revised, modified and enforced, and it is one of the primary objectives of this Society to see that this is done.
Another priority is to make our children conscious, from an early age, of the importance of animals and of their rights. Tomorrow, it will be their responsibility to decide on the fate of these defenceless creatures.

The Society has taken positive measures towards the following objectives:

1-a legal status for animals;
2-obtain adequate legislation for the protection of ALL species; • a specific act concerning animal experimentation;
3-accelerate research in this field and promote the use of avail-
able replacement methods;

4-make known and respected the existing Canadian and Quebec
laws pertaining to animal welfare;
5-obtain a government control on the sale of ALL species;

6-alleviate the senseless overpopulation of domestic animals
through sterilization facilities;

7-submit recommendations on municipal by-laws;
8-denounce the destruction and commercialization of our wildlife
and ensure its welfare;

9-abolish painful and outdated trapping methods;
10-expose the cruelty of intensive farming;
11-promote knowledge and respect of animal life by all possible
means.
