Releasing Birds After Care

Le Nichoir provides care and treatment to sick, injured and orphaned wild birds, and releases these birds back into their natural habitat. In 1994, its first year of operation, 478 birds were admitted. In 2001 over 1250 birds were cared for, and almost 60% were released back into their natural habitat, a success rate which is considered excellent in bird rehabilitation.

Le Nichoir is a non-profit, income-tax exempt organization. Volunteers are the heart of Le Nichoir, providing direct care to the birds, cleaning, and maintenance of the barn, fundraising, and many other essential services. Funding for the care we provide comes mainly from private, individual donations - there is no charge asked for any of our services. All donations, of money and/or supplies, are tax-deductible. (Click on our
Wish List to find out what is most needed at present).

If you would like to know more about the Fauna of Quebec, well here are some truly captivating Websites on the subject:

(Please note these are basically French Web sites, but this does not mean that they do not have English members, in the interim the following texts are translations done by the SQDA.)

-«Le Clan des Loups d'Amérique du Nord (C.L.A.N.) (the Wolf Clan of North America) is pleased to announce its arrival on the Web.
It contains over 40 pages of information with a number of exclusive photographs.

-«If the study of astronomy makes you smile, if you are enchanted by ornithology, if you are fascinated by frogs and/or  interested in bats » Then come and discover the Fauna of Quebec in the Greater Montreal area with  G.u.e.p.e. (Groupe uni des éducateurs-naturalistes et professionnels en environnement http://www.guepe.qc.ca/

I had the pleasure of attending one of G.U.E.P.E.`s workshops in October of this year, everything you ever wanted to know about Owls and more. David Covino who gave the presentation was very knowledgeable and relayed the information with a lot of style and with an excellent sense of humour. Do check out their Web site as they offer activites all year round. Toni Andrea Belschner, President of the SQDA

A shelter that specializes in the care and medical attention to the wounded Fauna of Quebec.
«
The Pageau Shelter is a caring and comforting home run by Michel and Louise Pageau. The Shelter cares for animals that have been the unfortunate victims of road accidents and or have been wounded by human intervention. Louise and Michel take them in, provide medical help, food, shelter and of course lots of TLC and when possible release the healed ones back to nature.»
